On the way to work today, the hotel shuttle driver—India(n) born and an American citizen—asked me, “How many stupid people are in the U.S.?”
I thought this a funny question right off the bat, but little did I know where this was going.
I replied simply, “Well, just think about how stupid the average person is, and realize that half the people are even more stupid than that. There are 330 million people in the U.S., so there are 165 million stupid people.” I thought that a pretty clever answer to a question posed on the spot.
The driver then asked, “How many stupid people do you think there are in India?”
This was an easy answer since I already had the formula, I just needed a little more information.
“How many people live in India? A billion?”
“1.125”
“Okay, 1.125 billion. Half of 1.25 bill—”
“80 PERCENT!”
“What? 80 percent?”
“Yes. 80 percent stupid people in India.”
I didn’t know how to respond.
